What are cookies & similar technologies?

  • Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser.
  • Local Storage / Session Storage save settings in your browser for faster, more consistent experiences.
  • Pixels/Tags are tiny snippets that help measure performance (e.g., page views, conversions).
  • SDKs may run in apps or embedded widgets to enable features (e.g., video players).

How we use them (purposes)

  1. Strictly Necessary – Security, load balancing, fraud prevention, core navigation, and cookie consent.
  2. Preferences – Remember language, accessibility settings, and UI choices.
  3. Analytics – Understand which pages and tools are most useful, fix bugs, and improve UX.
  4. Personalization – Tailor on-site content modules or recommendations.
  5. Advertising & Measurement – Deliver, cap, and measure ads and affiliate links to keep MysticBolt free.

Examples of technologies we use

  • Analytics & Tagging: Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager (page performance, user journeys).
  • Advertising / Monetization: Google AdSense/Ad Manager (ad delivery, frequency capping, reporting).
  • Embedded Media & Social: YouTube (video playback), and other social embeds that may set their own cookies.
  • Performance & Security: CDN / firewall services that may set strictly necessary cookies (e.g., session routing).

Note: Third parties place and read cookies according to their own policies. You can manage their settings via our preferences tool and your browser settings.

Your choices

  • Manage Cookie Preferences: Use the “Manage Cookie Preferences” link in our footer to enable/disable non-essential categories.
  • Browser controls: Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and set site exceptions. Searching your browser’s help for “cookies” will show exact steps.
  • Advertising choices: Many ad platforms provide opt-outs for interest-based ads. Adjusting these settings reduces personalization but doesn’t remove all ads.

Global Privacy Control (GPC) & Do Not Track (DNT)

  • GPC: When technically detectable, we treat a valid Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out of sale/sharing for targeted advertising where required by law.
  • DNT: The industry has no consistent DNT standard; we rely on the settings above and our consent tool.

Regional disclosures

  • GDPR / ePrivacy (EEA/UK): We use a consent banner to obtain permission for non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time via Manage Cookie Preferences.
  • U.S. State Laws (e.g., CPRA/CCPA, CPA, VCDPA): Where applicable, you may have rights to opt out of targeted advertising or “sharing.” Use Manage Cookie Preferences and see our Privacy Policy for details on your rights and requests.

Data retention

Cookie lifetimes vary by purpose and provider. Analytics and advertising cookies typically last from a session up to 24 months unless you clear them sooner or change your preferences.

Children’s privacy

MysticBolt is a general-audience site. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in a way that requires parental consent under applicable laws. See our Privacy Policy for more.

Updates to this policy

We may update this page to reflect product changes or legal requirements. Material changes will be noted here and/or in the consent banner.

Comments

Suggested text: When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

Suggested text: If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Suggested text: If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. Embedded content from other websites

Suggested text: Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

Suggested text: If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

Suggested text: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

Suggested text: If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Suggested text: Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
